ENGELS TO EDUARD BERNSTEIN

IN LONDON

[London,] Wednesday, 23 December 1891

Dear Ede,

Idiot that I am, it never crossed my mind yesterday that you might need some money after your mishap on Sunday[1] and, even though I believe there is some justification for my assuming that you would not have felt shy about mentioning the matter despite such gross re- missness on my part, I shall, now that I see the whole thing clearly, hasten to make amends by offering you the unrestricted use of my balance at the bank and my CASH ON HAND. I still have about £ 5 here at home and tomorrow morning I shall draw some more — FOG PERMIT-

TING.

Warm regards to you all.

Your

F.E.

Käte[2] could spend Friday night with us if you think that would be preferable. Won't be any bother.
